Compressed Natural Gas or popularly known as "CNG" is made from compressing natural gas which is a clean energy fuel consisting primary of methane (CH4) that can substitute other energy fuel like gasoline (petrol), diesel fuel, and even petroleum gas (LPG).

Natural gas can be found in many gas fields across Indonesia. Mostly this raw natural gas from the gas field will then undergo a processing treatment to remove almost all other materials other than methane, before it is deliver to the end users such as factories, power plants, hotels, restaurants, and housing complex through 3 (three) medium forms of distribution, which are through pipeline gas(NG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), and compressed natural gas (CNG).
The most common distribution of natural gas had been done through the medium of pipeline distribution, whereby in Indonesias case, PT. Perusahaan Gas Negara, Tbk (PGN) has been acting this role in providing a pipeline network distribution to the entire nation since the early 70s. However, up until today, these pipeline distributions of natural gas are still not widely available to all end users that are spread un-evenly around the archipelago. Therefore, within the past decade many private companies have acted upon this opportunity for the uprising need of natural gas, as a relatively cheaper alternative fuel compared to petrol, by bringing the natural gas in other medium form, such as through CNG.
